About Us
History
The Care Fund was created from a gift bequeathed by an elderly Japanese woman to her two friends who supported her during her battle with lung cancer. The two friends realized the need for an organization to support Japanese and Japanese-Americans in the United States and they used the gift to establish the Care Fund in 1999 in DC. In 2000, the Care Fund was approved as NPO 501(c)(3).
In 2004, the main office was established in Annandale, VA. In 2010, the Care Fund received an official commendation from the Foreign Minister of Japan for its contribution to the welfare of Japanese citizens living in the United States. In 2016, the Maryland library opened in Rockville, MD. In 2020, the Maryland branch office started operation.
