What We Do

Helpline
A free service provided by our friendly volunteers to anyone seeking assistance in Japanese. The service is strictly confidential. Please contact our exclusive helpline email at sodan@jacarefund.org - Assistance for daily needs: transportation, meal delivery, grocery shopping, etc. - Assistance for everyday issues such as family, legal, etc. - Provide information regarding Japanese speaking professionals such as lawyers, physicians, translator/interpreters, social workers, etc.
Care Calls
Our volunteer Care Callers make friendly phone contacts on monthly basis to our senior participants. These socialization opportunities in Japanese language can help maintain connection to the communitiy and alleviate feelings of isolation.
Support Group
Grief support for those who have experienced loss.

Seminar (Currently held online)

Educational lectures and seminars on such topics as: health & nutrition, financial planning, family issues and governmental services, etc. Seminars are usually held in Japanese.

Cultural & Fitness Classes (Currently held online)

To maintain Japanese culture and diversify the community’s interest, the Care Fund offers various cultural classes on Japanese Calligraphy, Japanese Flower Arrangement, Sumie (Japanese Ink Drawing), etc.
Traditional Japanese Exercise called “Jikyojutsu” is offered year round to help individuals and the community to develop healthy and active lifestyles. The group exercise classes provide a safe and fun environment for individuals of all ages to get fit and energized.

Senior Wellness Program (Currently held online)

As our program value "speaking aloud", we have a discussion centering on a theme during our program. Activities include light exercise, brain training, nostalgic music, etc. The program is held in Japanese.
The Care Fund Senior Wellness Program is currently held monthly as follows: 2nd Wednesday 2:00 - 3:30 pm 4th Tuesday 2:00 - 3:30 pm 4th Friday 1:00 - 2:30 pm

Keiai no Tsudoi (Annual luncheon for seniors)

The Care Fund celebrates this Japanese holiday, a day dedicated to honor elderly citizens, with a Senior’s Luncheon. To show respect, love, and support, we invite seniors living in the greater Washington area to enjoy a bento lunch, entertaining and performances.
